At Donnelly Construction, we believe that safety comes first. We recognize that our employees, subcontractors, and partners drive our business, and we strive to provide them with the safest possible work environment. No duty is deemed more valuable than worker health and safety. As a company, from all levels of management to field employees, we share a goal of zero incidents. As our most critical resource, our employees are protected through training, provision of safe work surroundings, and procedures that enforce the protection of health and safety. Our focus on providing safe jobsites benefits our clients as well, resulting in well-organized projects that stay on schedule and achieve the highest standards of quality.
Based on a philosophy of training and accountability, our commitment to safety begins with upper management, extends through all levels of supervision, and is consistently communicated to all personnel. All of our employees receive ongoing training to improve skills and maintain safety assurance.
Donnelly Construction participates in the OSHA Outreach Training Program through which OSHA authorizes trainers to teach occupational safety and health hazard recognition. Our Safety Director is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to train our employees in OSHA 10- and-30 construction courses. All of our field employees have received OSHA 10 or 30 hour training.
Personnel working on Donnelly Construction jobsites are required to report any unsafe conditions, practices, or hazards encountered on the jobsite. All incidents are reported immediately to the jobsite Superintendent.
We enforce a strict compliance to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, along with all Donnelly Construction policies.
Our safety goal is achieved through a comprehensive monitoring system of hazard recognition. We accomplish this goal through daily safety walks, jobsite inspections (both scheduled and random), and weekly Toolbox Talks. We also conduct monthly jobsite safety meetings at all of our project locations. In addition to all of our administrative and engineering safety controls, we provide all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to each employee.
Workforce candidates must pass a pre-employment substance abuse screening, and our Substance Abuse Policy includes post-accident and random screenings. New employees participate in an introductory jobsite safety orientation and all employees participate in OSHA training and weekly toolbox safety meetings, with task-specific safety briefings given at the beginning of each work day.
To actively provide a better and safer work environment, we regularly evaluate employee accident and illness prevention programs, promote safety and health awareness, and encourage employee participation to our Safety Program.
We develop a written site-specific safety program for every project.
The program addresses our clients’ safety needs and unique requirements of the particular project and site as well as our standard practices, the requirements of local building codes, and any concerns of the client and community.
Our commitment to safety has enabled us to have one of the lowest Experience Modification Rates (EMRs) in the industry (0.70), which translates into fewer accidents, a safe workplace environment, and ultimately cost savings for our clients. It also demonstrates that with less down time on site due to accidents and safety related issues, we not only keep everyone safe, but also deliver our projects on schedule.
