Project Description

The Bonnie Brae School selected Donnelly Construction out of a large group of competitors to be the Design-Builder for the campus’ new Family Resource Center and new residential cottage.  In addition to Donnelly’s competitive and comprehensive bid, Bonnie Brae noted our previous successful renovation of some of the school’s cottages as a major factor in the selection.

The Family Resource Center is a renovation of and addition to the original Osborne Cottage, the school’s first building, dating back to the early 20th century.  The original wood and concrete structure offers the design and construction team some interesting challenges, which are being met with the knowledge gained from years of combined experience. The building is being re-purposed as a welcoming and visitor center, in addition to housing office and meeting spaces.  The additions will maintain the classical Tudor design of the building exterior and the original slate roof is being replaced with faux slate shingles.

The new Osborne Cottage is a new 7,000 sq. ft. single-story residence designed to be the home of twelve boys.  The building contains bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms, living spaces, recreational spaces, and staff offices.  Bonnie Brae’s desire for the design of the cottage is two-fold:  a comfortable, homey space for the boys and relative ease of maintenance for the facilities staff.  The building has been designed with these two parameters in mind.  The building’s exterior is a take on Arts & Crafts architecture, and includes a covered porch and rear patio.
